About Unit
4th Heavy Mechanized Brigade is a mechanized unit of Ukrainian Ground Forces formed in 2017 at the base of 1st Tank Brigade in Honcharivske as 4th Tank Brigade, and part of the Reserve Corps. The unit was later relocated to the city of Cherkasy, and subsequently demobilized.
On March 3, 2022, the brigade was officially reactivated and staffed with mobilized soldiers. Just two weeks after the Russian full-scale invasion, the brigade was at full strength and already deployed in combat.
On February 14th, 2023, Poland handed over the first Leopard 2A4 tanks to the brigade. The unit, upon arrival to Ukraine, became a tank battalion of 33rd Mechanized Brigade.
In July 2025, the tank brigade was reformed into a 4th Heavy Mechanized Brigade.
Insignia
The central element of the brigade’s insignia is the head of a silver-armored rhinoceros. This symbolizes unstoppable force, resilience, and readiness for battle. The black background signifies the unit’s affiliation with the tank forces.
